2022 Grants Awarded

2022 was a very exciting year for the Maine Lighthouse Trust as it was the first year the Trust received funds from the sale of the new lighthouse specialty license plate and the first year the Trust awarded grants to Maine’s lighthouse community.

The Maine Lighthouse Trust’s mission is to award annual grants from the funds it receives from those who purchase the lighthouse specialty license plate.  The Maine Lighthouse Trust awarded over $30,000 in grants in 2022.

In 2022, the grant recipients were chosen by the Executive Board of the Trust and awarded to Maine’s lighthouse community.

The 2022 grant recipients include:

  • Maine Lighthouse Museum – which will use the funds to restore existing educational and historical exhibits.

  • LENS (Maine Lighthouse Educational and Nautical Studies) – to continue educating Maine teachers, students and public.

  • Maine Make-A-Wish – to provide lighthouse maritime experiences to critically ill children and their families.

  • Maine Honor Flight – to provide Coast Guard veterans a guided trip to Washington, D.C. memorials.

Going forward, we will invite lighthouse community stakeholders from across Maine to participate in a diverse board of advisors which ideally will consist of educators, waterfront workers, mariners, coastal safety professionals and other lighthouse community leaders. This group will review and award grants submitted from Maine’s lighthouse community.

Thank you to the Mainers who purchased the new lighthouse specialty license plate.  You should be proud knowing that your contribution is making a difference in Maine’s lighthouse community.
